We recently held our Project Coordinator training retreat, bringing together a diverse group of coordinators from various projects. It underscored that while each project may have its own unique aspects, the challenges and experiences on site are often shared.
Building Connections Across Projects
A key focus of the retreat was to provide coordinators with the opportunity to connect beyond their individual projects. It’s easy to become absorbed in daily tasks, but stepping back to see the broader picture reveals the importance of collaboration and connection. This retreat served as a reminder that our collective success is rooted in the relationships and support we build together.
Learning from Each Other
Guided by our directors and senior leaders, the retreat fostered open and honest dialogue. It wasn’t just about identifying what’s working; it was equally about recognising what isn’t. The goal was to ensure coordinators felt heard and valued, acknowledging the tough and crucial nature of their work. One of our directors captured this sentiment perfectly: “This room is filled with future leaders—not just of Kapitol, but of the entire industry. By nurturing this talent and truly listening, there’s a tremendous opportunity for growth and change.”
Influencing Skills and Storytelling Workshop
The retreat also featured a workshop led by Deb Dickson from Pique Global, focusing on developing influencing and presentation skills. These sessions went beyond mere speaking techniques to delve into effective storytelling. Deb encouraged coordinators to step out of their comfort zones, gain new perspectives, and build confidence in their leadership abilities. The positive changes were observed, and these skills are set to benefit both their current roles and future growth.
Looking Ahead
What stood out most from the retreat was the overwhelming sense of potential. Our coordinators are passionate and driven, ready to tackle challenges with newfound skills and insights. Investing in their development is not just about preparing them for future roles within Kapitol—it’s about equipping them to make a meaningful impact across the construction industry.
We look forward to seeing how our coordinators apply what they’ve learned to drive positive change, both within Kapitol and beyond.
