Work-life Balance at Kapitol Group
Fatigue, burnout and staff retention are huge problems in the construction industry. This is why Kapitol have been implementing initiatives over the past 2 years to help address these issues.
In 2020 we introduced ’10 in 14’ which aims to ensure no site staff work more than a 10-day fortnight. Since then, we’ve progressed to all site staff only working Monday to Friday, with the exception of Site Managers and Site Supervisors who work rotating Saturdays.
We’re also tackling reducing hours worked by running process and efficiency sessions, and we're fighting back against an industry culture of 'presenteeism' (i.e. long hours in construction 'are what they are' and 'if my superiors working long hours, so must I').
Our target is that no one working at Kapitol works more than 50-hours per week.
We still have work to do, we don’t have it perfect just yet! However, we’re making progress and are committed to moving towards a workplace where all staff feel they have work-life balance.
